Proposed Changes for SFFL 2001

Last Update: July 23, 2001

The following articles are proposed for the upcoming SFFL Season.  Please review these articles so you will be well versed in there intended purpose when it comes time to vote on them.

Article I.

The league office hereby proposes one of the following days for the SFFL 2001 Draft Day:
  1. 12:00pm Saturday August 25, 2001
  2. 5:30pm Friday August 24, 2001
  3. 5:30pm Friday August 31, 2001
  4. 12:00pm Saturday September 1, 2001 PASSED (6-3, 1 ANY)
  5. 12:00pm Saturday August 18, 2001

Article II. - PASSED (7-1)

The league office hereby proposes the expansion of the league from 10 teams to 12 teams.

This expansion will require the following changes to the current division make up and associated scheduling:

  • The existing North and South Divisions would become the North and South Conferences with 6 teams each.  Some realignment would be required as detailed below.
  • The Conferences would be split into two (2) Divisions with three (3) teams each thus forming the four (4) divisions:  Northeast, Northwest, Southeast, and Southwest.
  • The makeup of the Conferences and Divisions would be:
  • Northern Conference

    Northwest Division

    Eager Beavers
    SQUONK
    -Larry Guidi-

    Northeast Division

    Elephants
    Hackers
    Rough Riders

    Southern Conference

    Southwest Division

    Fighting Lounge Chairs
    Invaders
    THRAK

    Southeast Division

    Private's Parts
    Young Guns
    -TBD-

  • These are what seemed to be a "semi-logical" distribution of the existing teams.  These are based on approximate geographical locations of the original teams, traditional alignments, and current rivalries.  The hardest decision was breaking off the Parts from FLC, Invaders, and THRAK as these are original founding teams that have always played one another.  In the Southern Conference, other suggestions within reason will be entertained. The Northern Conference seems reasonable and logical, but is also open (some) to discussion.
  • A 13 game regular season would be maintained with every team playing each divisional teams twice (4 games) and all other teams once (9 games).  See the scheduling sub-section at the end of this article.
  • A 3 week playoff system would be maintained with the following scenario employed: *
  • * The big difference between these two are whether there are 8 or 6 teams which make the playoffs.

    The Regular Season Schedule

The exact schedule will be finalized later as it will be such that the Cross-Dressed Championship teams will meet again in week #1.  As in the past the first week of the season would be a non-Conference week (North-South).  In week #7 we would now have an Inter-Divisional week (NWest-NEast, SWest-SEast).  In generic terms for this demonstration assume that teams 1-3 are the NorthWest Division, 4-6 the NorthEast Division, 7-9 the SouthWest Division, and 10-12 the SouthEast Division.  The schedule is arranged such that you never play more than two (2) Divisional games in a row, yet there are many key games in the final two weeks of the season. The Lord Almighty Commish likes this critial mass scheduling, as it will keep the races tight to the very end of the season and thus keep all teams interested, involved, and (hopefully) in contention.

    Article III. - PASSED (9-0)

The league office hereby proposes a change to the Scoring System: This change is proposed to return the Quarterback position to a premium player in our scoring system. This increases the value of Quarterbacks by about 15%. Details on what precipitated this action and the league offices response can be found here.

    Article IV. - PASSED (9-0)

The league office hereby proposes additional scoring changes in conjuction with Article III: This is an additional premium for the Quarterback position. This would increase their value about an additional 10% for a gain of 25% over the 2000 season. Details on what precipitated this action and the league offices response can be found here.

    Article V. - DEFEATED (7-2)

The league office hereby proposes a change to the Team Composition: This change is to increase the value of a named positional player and decrease the advantage of a particular NFL team having a quality backup. The additional roster slot provides for a team to carry a typical lineup of 2-QB's, 4-RB's, 4-WR's, 2-K's. You are not required to carry any number of players at any position and the previous is just used as an example.

    Article VI. - PASSED (8-1)

The league office hereby proposes a change to the Starting Line-up Submission requirements: This change is to allow teams to turn in a starting lineup on Friday as usual, yet still allows game time changes should a player become unable to play prior to the kickoff. Teams will be encouraged to turn in their lineups per past practices, but this will allow an owner to make last minute irrational decisions. ;)

    Article VII. - DEFEATED (6-4)

The league office hereby proposes a change to the Starting Line-up Submission requirements: This change will force owners to better manage their teams and enhance the prospect of trades.

    Article VIII. - DEFEATED (5-3) ???

The league office hereby proposes a full-time paid Lord Almighty Commish: Hey, you can't blame a guy for trying!

    Article IX. - PASSED (6-3)

The league office (via SQUONK) hereby proposes the addition of Team Defense/Special Teams: This provides the added dimension of defense to the games.
